Saturday Long Run

THE MAPS

If you start earlier (or later) than your group's call time, please check with your pace pals to make sure your team is all starting at the same time. As always, if you start way before the scheduled start times, please take water to cover yourselves for that first water stop (or two) in case you're ahead of the logistical team. We're touring the northern portions of the Austin Marathon course this week.

PLEASE REVIEW YOUR ROUTE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY, AS VARIOUS OF THE ROUTES HAVE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT STARTING MILES AND/OR FINISHING MILES. The 20-24 mile people will start out with the Enfield Triangle and all the northern part of the new marathon course, but some of those will cut off some bits at the end to end up with the proper mileage.  The 16-18 milers will go out to Expo before heading up to join the Austin course at Enfield. The 12-14 milers will go out 3rd Street to Congress, up to Dean Keaton, and then will join the East Austin portions of the marathon course for most of its twists and turns. The 8-10 milers will go out and back along the last miles of the new marathon course, to get a good feel for those last steps.

OUT AND BACK ROUTES

6 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Go towards power building, then up to 3rd Street, and right on 3rd over to Congress. Left on Congress up to 11th, right on 11th to Red River. Right on Red River down to 6th St. Left on 6th under I-35 over to Waller. Right on Waller down to Cesar Chavez. Left on Cesar Chavez to Comal, just a few blocks. Turn around there, and retrace your steps all the way back to GZLs HQ. (CChavez to Waller to E. 6th to Red River to 11th to Congress to 3rd to Seaholm to HQ.)

8 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Go towards power building, then up to 3rd Street, and right on 3rd over to Congress. Left on Congress up to 11th, right on 11th to Red River. Right on Red River down to 6th St. Left on 6th under I-35 over to Waller. Right on Waller down to Cesar Chavez. Left on Cesar Chavez all the way to Pleasant Valley. Turn around there, and retrace your steps all the way back to GZLs HQ. (CChavez to Waller to E. 6th to Red River to 11th to Congress to 3rd to Seaholm to HQ.)

LOOP ROUTES STARTING ON 3RD TO CONGRESS

Left on Webberville up to Goodwin Avenue. Right on Goodwin over to Tillery. Right on Tillery down to E. 5th St. Left on E. 5th over to Shady Lane. Right on Shady to Cesar Chavez. Right on Cesar Chavez heading back to town. Cesar Chavez to Waller road. Right on Waller up to E. 6th. Left on E. 6th, under I-35 over to Congress. Jan 7th (Disney): Taper time. 16-18 miles, with last 8 @ MGP. Start time 5:45am.

Jan 14th (Houston, Louisiana): 20-24 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 24 mile max. Start time 5:45am.

Feb 18th (Austin): 10-14 mile recovery long run. Back off a bit from last week. Start time 5:45am.

Feb 25th (Cowtown, Mesa, Tokyo): 14-18 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 18 mile max. Start time 5:45am.

March 4th (Napa, New Orleans): 10-14 mile recovery long run. Back off a bit from last week. Start time 5:45am.

March 18th (Big D): 10-12 mile recovery long run. Back off a bit from last week. Start time 5:45am.

April 16th (Boston): 10-12 mile recovery long run. Back off a bit from last week. Start time 5:45am.

BEGINNER GAZELLES, HALF MARATHONERS, and EVERYBODY ELSE:

Beginner Gazelles! This week, 3-7 miles. Choose a distance amongst your pace pals, up to that 7 mile max. Start time 6:30am.

Everybody Else (GZLs peeps): 7-12 miles. If you went 12 last week, maybe cut back to 7-10 this week. For anything else, add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 12 mile mark. Start time 5:45am.

Jan. 14th (Houston Half):  10-14 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 14 mile max. Start time 5:45am.

Jan. 21st (3M Half):  5-8 mile recovery run. Start time 6:30am.

Feb. 18th (Austin Half): 5-8 mile recovery run. Start time 6:30am.
