Saturday Long Run: St. Edwards / Barton Hills loops

START TIMES

Start time is 5:45am. Be mindful of your post-run routine so you don’t block residents at HQ area after your run. If you start way before or after the 5:45am start time, note that you may be ahead of or out after the water team has done their work.

Water stations are normal this week. You may want to carry your own water, if you are starting way before or after the 5:45 start window, or if you are ad libbing on route variations.

THE ROUTES

Note that the routes vary a little from our usual St Ed’s routes since the I35 bridge is not usable. Be sure you read the route carefully.

3 Miles: Your map is here. Pfluger footbridge to Mopac trail loop.

4 Miles: Your map is here. GZLs HQ on Electric Drive over to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Right on 3rd Street all the way to Congress. Right on Congress, across the town lake bridge, then head down to the trail by the old Statesman building. Take the trail out to I35. Turn around there and take the trail back towards Mopac. Boardwalk and southside trail back to Pfluger footbridge and up and over to HQ.

5 Miles: Your map is here. GZLs HQ on Electric Drive over to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Right on 3rd Street all the way to Congress. Right on Congress, across the town lake bridge, then head down to the trail by the old Statesman building. Take the trail out past I35 to where the boardwalk connects back onto land. Turn around there and take the trail back towards Mopac (stop and get a sip of water at fountains under I-35 on boardwalk). Boardwalk and southside trail back to Pfluger footbridge and up and over to HQ.

7 Miles: Your map is here. GZLs HQ on Electric Drive over to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Right on 3rd Street over to Congress. Right on Congress, across the town lake bridge, then head down to the trail by the old Statesman building. Take the trail out to I35. Grab water then turn around and take the trail towards Mopac. Exit the trail just before the CiderArcade, and head up to Riverside. Cross at crosswalk to Alameda Drive on south side of Riverside. Alameda to second right hand turn, which is Sunset. Right on Sunset over to East Side Drive. Left on East Side and stay with it up alongside greenbelt park on your left. Take a RIGHT on Oltorf Street and diverge from your 9+ mile brethren. Oltorf over to S. Congress. RIGHT on S. Congress back all the way to southside trail (access at Austin Statesman plant), and take SS Trail LEFT and over to Pfluger bridge and back to HQ.

8.75 Miles: Your map is here GZLs HQ on Electric Drive over to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Right on 3rd Street over to Congress. Right on Congress, across the town lake bridge, then head down to the trail by the old Statesman building. Take the trail out to I35. Grab water then turn around and take the trail towards Mopac. Exit the trail just before the CiderArcade, and head up to Riverside. Cross at crosswalk to Alameda Drive on south side of Riverside. Alameda to second right hand turn, which is Sunset. Right on Sunset over to East Side Drive. Left on East Side and stay with it up alongside greenbelt park on your left. East Side Drive into St. Edward’s campus, to name change to University Circle. At the top of the hill, take a left through the Theater parking lot over to Theater Pass, and take a right on Theater Pass to Woodward. Right on Woodward across S. Congress to name change to Lightsey. At S. First, take a short left then immediate right onto Cardinal. Cardinal to S. 5th Street. Right on S. 5th. S. 5th all the way to Barton Springs Road. Cross BS Road, and take a left over to dog food place, turning right onto Lee Barton Dr. Take Lee Barton Dr. along pitch and putt course and the condos to Pfluger footbridge. Cross up and over LB Lake on footbridge to HQ.

At the top of the hill, take a left through the Theater parking lot over to Theater Pass, and take a right on Theater Pass to Woodward. Right on Woodward across S. Congress to name change to Lightsey. At S. First, take a short left then immediate right onto Cardinal. Cardinal to S. 5th Street. Right on S. 5th. S. 5th up to West Mary St. (Library branch at that corner). Left on W. Mary, crossing S. Lamar to Hether St. Hether to Bluebonnet. Right on Bluebonnet at Zilker Elementary, and follow it as it sweeps left (name change to Melridge Place), and hits Rabb Road. STRAIGHT on Azie Morton Drive and take it all the way to Barton Springs Rd. Cross BS Road and take southside trail over to Pfluger footbridge and up and over LB Lake back to HQ.

Right on Arpdale down to Barton Parkway (divided road). Right on Barton Parkway over to Wilke. Happily, a LEFT on Wilke up to Barton Hills Drive. Right on BH Drive down to Barton Springs Rd. Cross Barton Springs and follow the southside trail over to Pfluger footbridge and up and over LB Lake back to HQ.

Right on Bluebonnet at Zilker Elementary, and follow it as it sweeps left (name change to Melridge Place), and hits Rabb Road. LEFT on Rabb/Azie Morton Drive south to Rae Dell and over to Barton Skyway. Right on Barton Skyway to Barton Hills Drive. Left on Barton Hills Drive for the Lollipop, which you just stay on BH Drive as it makes a loop, hanging left all the way until you return to the ”T” at BH Drive and BH Drive. Take a right on BH Drive, and take it down to Azie Morton to Barton Springs Rd. Left on Barton Springs, go through Zilker (following the 1K route) to Stratford and over to the trail at Mopac. Cross to northside via Mopac footbridge. Northside bike trail back to HQ.

18 Miles: Your map is here. You will track with your 16 mile pals above, and then at Mopac, you will take a short out and back Veterans to LA Blvd, out to the first driveway at the student housing across from the golf course (Jasper Street). Turn around there, retrace your steps back to Mopac, and then Veterans and the bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez back to HQ.

20 Miles: Our couple of 20 milers will use the 18 mile course listed above, and will add their favorite 2 bonus miles. You could continue out LA Blvd to Mozart’s, and then turn around there and return to Mopac, for instance.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

·      April 19-20th (Mountains2Beach, Boston): 8-12 miles with last 4 at MGP.

·      April 26th (Eugene): 12-14 miles with last 5 at MGP.

·      May 3rd (OC, Vancouver, Charles River): 14-18 miles with last 8-10 at MGP.

·      May 24th (Cape Town): 18-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last long run up to that 20 mile max.

·      June 7th (Tunnel): 16-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longest run up to the 20 mile max.
