What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
My daughter, Kate, was friends with Gilbert’s daughter, Emma, and my son, Will, was starting to run with St. Andrews. Gilbert had been after me for about two years to join.

I finally joined in February 2014, with a goal to run a marathon the following year to celebrate my 50th birthday. When I joined, I could run about three miles. Gilbert helped me achieve my goal when I finished the 2015 Austin Marathon!

Which group do you run with?
I have taken some time off while our twins have finished high school and head off to college. I am running sporadically on Saturdays, but plan to return to the MW 5:30 a.m. group in September, so I can run my next marathon in 2020!

What's your favorite workout and why?
Fartleks - I like the sense of freedom and joy I get from the sprints and the sense of accomplishment I get from finishing the workout.

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
I started running with the Friendly’s in 2014 and continued with the MW 5:30 group. I have been so impressed by all of the positive and encouraging people that are drawn to the Gazelles. It’s such a supportive group.

Running has also given me some great time to share with Will as he grew and ran cross country and track with Gilbert.

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
My favorite thing about Gilbert is that he believes in you even before you can believe in yourself. And he does that for each of the Gazelles. Through that belief, he pushes us to achieve more than we ever thought was possible. Thanks, Gilbert!
