What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I first joined the Gazelles in late 2015, when I was working with Luke's Locker and we hosted the group on Saturday mornings. Since then I took a break from running and signed back up a few months ago in an effort to train for the BCS half-marathon.
Which group do you run with?
My wife and I signed up this year for the long run plan on the weekends, and it's been a great help to us as we train for our upcoming races. Back in 2015 when we lived up north, I was a part of the Far West Gazelles group and really enjoyed workouts out on the Murchison track!
What's your favorite workout and why?
Tempo runs. There's no better way than these long steady workouts, to get you ready for the mental grind of a long-distance race.
How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
I wasn't sure if I would continue running after Luke's Locker closed, but it's been great getting back into it this year with a team full of training partners. Between the half-marathons my wife signs me up for (I receive race entry confirmation emails at work), and the Gazelle's training program, I can't wait for this year's race season!
What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
I grew up running in Austin and first met Gilbert back when he coached a small group of runners out of RunTex. It's been a joy to watch Gilbert become the "Mayor" of Austin Running, and to see the Gazelles become one of the largest running programs in Austin, both in size and it's influence on the running community.
