What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I joined in 2013 when I moved to Austin so I would have a group to train with for the NYC Marathon that year. After emailing a few different groups, I decided to join Gazelles. My original plan was to only sign up for the fall marathon training group but six years later I'm still showing up to the workouts and have been training for races every year.

Which group do you run with?
I run with the M/W 5:30am group.

What's your favorite workout and why?
I like the track workouts. It's fun to have the shorter distance and see how much you can really push yourself on that last set. I also like mile repeats. I think that's because I don't do them very often since I usually have a different workout when they're on the schedule.

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
Before joining the Gazelles, I never thought I would wake up before 5am to run. I was always an evening runner and sometimes even a treadmill runner. Now I have no idea how I did either of those. It's so nice to have a group of people that, whether they know it or not, are keeping you accountable, are there to help you up after you fall (because it happens to all of us at some point!), and are there for you through it all. I have met some amazing people through running with the Gazelles and I am fortunate enough to call them my friends. I've also gotten a lot more consistent and have gotten faster since I joined.

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
My favorite memory of Gilbert is from one of my first weeks at Gazelles and we were doing a workout at Zilker. Gilbert was trying to put me with a group to run with so he asked me what my marathon goal time was. I told him my goal and he said "okay, run with that group.” At the end of the workout, Gilbert called me over and I just knew he was going to tell me there was no way I would ever reach my goal but instead he told me I could finish much faster than my goal. I had to defer the marathon that year because of an injury but the next year I came within two minutes of what he predicted!

Friday PT Canceled in July

Due to busy summer schedules, Pieter and Katie will be unable to hold their assessment clinic at HQ for the month of July. They will resume starting back up in August. We have two other options during the week if you need to talk to PTs. Always double check the schedule for location.
