This Week With Gazelles

Welcome to all of our new Gazelles!

Have you noticed all the new faces around HQ? Fall marathon training along with High School and Youth Gazelles has brought us lots of new members this month. Be sure to introduce yourself to new folks in your groups and be supportive as they learn to navigate Gazelles training.

The T/TH 7:00a group welcomed several new and returning members last week!

Summer Track Series Meet #2
Austin High School track this Friday, June 21 at 5:30pm

It’s our second Summer Series All Comers Track Meet in partnership with The Loop Running and we want you to join us! All profits go directly to Back The Track to help maintain the AHS track. If you use the track for workouts, come participate in a great event and give Back to the Track.

Member Highlight: Anne-Marie Griger

What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I joined Gazelles around December 2006 to train for the 2007 Boston Marathon because I didn't want to train by myself. I have been training with Gazelles on and off since then.

Which group do you run with?
I run with the Tu/Th 5:30 am group. It has gotten so much bigger over the last few years!

What's your favorite workout and why?
I think my favorite workout is probably 600, 400, 200 on the track. I love seeing the the sun rise over the city skyline, and pushing myself to try to keep up with a group.

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
Running with Gazelles has made me more consistent and made it harder to just turn off my alarm and go back to bed. Getting a challenging workout done early in the morning puts me in a great frame of mind as I head to work and go about the rest of my day.

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
My favorite story about Gilbert is when I first met him. I was not sure which running group to join, and had talked to a couple of other coaches in town. I was having issues with my knee, and one of the other coaches was very condescending and told me that maybe I wouldn't be able to keep training for marathons. Gilbert encouraged me to join Gazelles and promised me that my knee would feel better if I went to see Pieter Kroon and worked on strengthening drills. He was right! Gilbert welcomes everyone and believes in our potential.

Each Gazelle featured in the Member Highlight has been selected randomly from our active member list.
