What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I joined Gazelles in December 2016 because I wanted to train with a collegial and fast group of runners under an inspiring coach...and to run a PR at Boston 2017. At least one of those things happened.

Which group do you run with?
T/Th 5:30am. But you'll find me running from The Loop most mornings.

What's your favorite workout and why?
Anything but Lollipop, cause that route is anything but sweet.

Other than that, I love being on the track for 800's. You have to be disciplined enough to not start too fast, yet strong enough to finish fast....BOOM pace!

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
There are many running coaches in Austin, Texas, but there is no community like the support, accountability, and camaraderie that Gazelle's provides. Gazelles has given me lasting friends that I can call on for business questions, Big Bend road trips, or parenting advice. The attention and insight that Gilbert shares has given me a strength and confidence in my running that I would have never found on my own.

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
There really are too many...but my earliest was when I first joined Gazelles. Gilbert was not as familiar with African geography as he might lead you to believe. He kept calling me "Chris" or "Jason" on our runs.  Finally I told him, "Gilbert, my name is Chad, like the country in Africa". He said "There is no country in Africa named Chad!". To this day, I am still not sure if he believes me.  But at least he finally remembered my name!

Each Gazelle featured in the Member Highlight has been selected randomly from our active member list.
