Storms cancel the Statesman Cap10K

We were sad to see the Statesman Cap10K canceled after everyone’s hard work and preparation, but agree the safety of our runners is most important! Thanks to everyone who came to Gazelles HQ before the race.

Race canceled, but we’re still joyful! Maybe next year!

What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I first joined the Gazelles in May of 2013. At that time, I was doing a lot of triathlons and while my run was alright, I wanted to get faster. Everyone knows the Gazelles are fast, and quite frankly, I was a bit (very) intimidated to join. I can’t recall what convinced me to give it a try although I had considered joining for months before I finally took the plunge, but once I joined I realized that it was silly to be intimidate. What a welcoming group! And I did get faster!

Which group do you run with?
I run M-W at 5:30am.

What's your favorite workout and why?
I love the hill repeats because I can run hills really well. Inexplicably, I can run backward uphill really fast. I guess this skill will help should I ever encounter a mountain lion on a steep hill.

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
I’ve learned how to not get injured and I stay healthy (as long as I do the 20/20 exercises). Also, running with a group gives me motivation to push harder, especially at track workouts. I’ve made some great friends in the Gazelles, I’ve become one of the biggest Gilbert fans – what an inspiration. And yes, I’ve gotten faster.

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
I have a Scosche heart rate monitor which goes around my forearm (rather than one in a chest band). Gilbert also has one. One day, after running 2k repeats, Gilbert saw the red flashing light on my heart rate monitor and said, “Why is your light red. Mine is blue.” Well, the blue light blinks when you’re in Zone 2 (per the standard 220-your age=Max heart rate). Purple is Zone 3, and Red is Zone 4. Apparently, while I’m having a heart attack, Gilbert is still in Zone 2.
