What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I moved here in the summer of 2016, and trained for the Chicago Marathon by myself. I cried after my first run in the humidity because I could only run 4 miles without walking after being able to comfortably run 20+ back in CA. The next summer (July 2017), my *now* husband signed me up for the fall marathon training program with the Gazelles because he said he was retiring from marathons, and couldn't run with me any more. I showed up the first day, and haven't looked back.
Which group do you run with?
Tues/Thurs 5:30AM crazies
What's your favorite workout and why?
1x1 Fartlek - by the time you feel the pain, it's time for recovery. It's efficient, but there's still breath for stories in between.
How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
As a washed up soccer player, my relationship with running was that I only knew it as punishment. It has become a great joy in my life, and gave me a space to build community and a home.
What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
After my first training with Gilbert, he asked me what my goal was for the upcoming marathon, and I told him I'd never run faster than a 3:35. So he looked at me for a second, and said, "OK, 3:05 it is." I've yet to do that, but he's almost convinced me it's possible.
Each Gazelle featured in the Member Highlight has been selected randomly from our active member list.
