Thank you for supporting Coach Gilbert and the Gazelle Foundation!

Gilbert and the Gazelle Foundation want to say thank you to all of the runners who came out to run Wilkes during Amplify Austin last Friday. This year was amazing with the most people ever matching Gilbert’s 25 hills, and the Gazelle Foundation raised $10,285 for clean water projects in Burundi! Gazelles, Youth Gazelles, UT, Austin Runners Club and St. Andrews all turned out to honor the legacy of giving Gilbert has created. Thank you, everyone!

2019 Austin Marathon

2019 Austin Marathon

What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I joined Gazelles at the beginning of August 2018. I had heard about Gilbert’s Gazelles through Run For the Water, and I really wanted to be part of a tight-knit running community. Then, when I decided to train for a marathon, I knew Gilbert’s coaching and the friendship of other Gazelles would be invaluable. I’ve loved every minute of it!

Which group do you run with?
I run with the Tues/Thurs at 7am group. They’re pretty great!

What's your favorite workout and why?
I think, honestly, that hill workouts are my favorite! There’s something about the camaraderie of a long warm up run over there, and the sense of accomplishment when we’re done that I love. It’s also so fun to see how much I’ve improved running up Wilke and Spring Creek over the months I’ve been in Gazelles!

How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
Gazelles really has changed everything! I’m the most thankful for the friends I’ve made over the last several months, I couldn’t have made it through marathon training without them! Everyone in Gazelles is so welcoming and made me feel like a part of the community from the get-go. Since being coached by Gilbert, my running form has improved significantly, I’m way faster than I thought I could be, and running has become an essential discipline and joy in my life!

What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
This weekend at the Austin Marathon, my dad paced me from mile 21 to the finish, and as we approached the final hill before the finish line, I saw Gilbert on the sideline. He ran with me up the hill and encouraged me, keeping my mind off the pain and giving me the final burst I needed to sprint to the finish! Gilbert does such a good job both challenging and encouraging us. It was a really special moment, running up that hill with my dad running on one side and Gilbert on the other!
