Under Armour at HQ/The Loop Wednesday, 3/13
Under Armour will be at Gazelles HQ/The Loop for the morning workouts on Wednesday, March 13 at 5:15am - 9:00am. If you'd like to demo a HOVR Infinite shoe or see new UA accessories, come a few minutes early or stay a few minutes late to check them out.
StretchLab at Gazelles HQ—Sat. March 16
The benefits of a regular and professional assisted stretching routine are universal. StretchLab will be at HQ after the Saturday Long Run on 3/16 to assist with 15-min of personal stretching. Check out their services and enjoy a well-deserved stretch after your run. A sign up sheet will be available at HQ prior to the long run.
Member Highlight: Susie Lane
What prompted you to join Gazelles and when did you join?
I joined the Gazelle’s in July 2017 while training for the Tunnel Marathon. My husband was my training partner for the marathon, but when an injury abruptly ended his running career I knew I needed to join a running group to help get me through the grueling summer months of training. I had always been in awe of Gilbert and the success stories my friends would have of their PRs obtained while training with the Gazelle’s, so without hesitation I signed up.
Which group do you run with?
I run with the 5:30am Monday and Wednesday group. I never thought I would be an early morning runner, but I look forward to getting up to see my fellow M/W runners. Everyone is quick to provide support and encouragement to get you through the difficult workouts and cheer you on through your successes.
What's your favorite workout and why?
Fartleks and hills. I really like the burst of exertion followed by a quick recovery on the fartleks and how the hills make you stronger. It’s very satisfying when you are able to get in one more hill repeat or make it all the way up a hill without stopping for the first time.
How has Gazelles changed your running/life?
Training with the Gazelles has transformed my running life and I wished I would have joined years ago. I have seen myself get faster, complete workouts I never would have thought possible prior to joining and PR in a marathon. Being a Gazelle means you’re part of a community of really remarkable people with whom many you build lasting friendships. Each week I am amazed and so inspired by everyone I run with and by everyone I wish I was fast enough to run with. It’s very humbling to share the roads, trails and track with so many awesome Gazelles.
What’s your favorite Gilbert-ism or best story about him?
Gilbert’s energy and positivity is infectious and you want to be a better runner and person by just being around him. I think the one Gilbert-ism that sticks to me is him telling me to “Always show up, Susie. No matter what, just show up.” Not that I have always followed this advice, but I do hear his voice every morning when my alarm goes off at 4:30 for a run/ workout. I came to realize that by showing up, I will get stronger, I will get faster, and I will achieve another marathon PR and reach my BQ goal.
