This Week With Gazelles: Dec. 24-30

January 1, 2019
9:00 a.m. at Gazelles HQ

Gazelles, friends, family—the entire Austin community are welcome.

We’ll run a few short miles together (or you can go longer if you like) and then head back to HQ for a new year celebration with friends. For a little extra motivation, the first 75 runners to show up will receive a FREE commemorative T-shirt!

(If you can help with mimosas and black eyed peas, please email Susan!)

Informal Christmas Day Run

The “7th Annual Stratford Christmas Run” is tomorrow! Open to everyone—Gazelles, friends, family, etc. and all paces!

The details:

  • Meet at Gazelles HQ, ready to go at 6:30 AM. The Loop will NOT be open so please plan accordingly. Parking is not guaranteed, so you may want to park on the street, not in the garage.

  • The Route: Cross to the south side of the trail and head towards Mopac. Turn left under Mopac to Stratford and take that west out to Red Bud. Red Bud over to Lake Austin Blvd. and then the trail back to Gazelles. You can of course make it longer by going extra on the trail, etc.

  • This is a totally unsupported run and is not an official Gazelle workout. Stratford is a narrow, curvy, hilly road, but the past six years that we've done this. the traffic was very minimal.

  • There is no water stop, but you can get water at fountains on the trail, or by going extra out LAB to the boat docks (if it's not too cold so the city has them off).

  • Bring your friends! This isn't a Gazelle workout, it’s open to everyone.

  • Please email Leslie if you have any questions and to let her know how many people to expect. Thanks!

“Quote” of The Week

Twas the night before race and all through the state,

Runners were carb-loading hoping for a great pace.

Their race day clothes were hung with care,

Along with the gels, watches and bibs all there.

The many weeks of training were not very fun, (they didn’t train with Gazelles)

Hill repeats, fartleks and long runs were done.

Hydration intake has all been perfected,

Thankfully no major pains were detected.

When race day arrives runners all fill the streets,

And into their corrals they eagerly retreat.

Setting their watches as they run through the start,

We bid them all a great race admiring their dedication and heart.

As the miles pass by they run with all of their might,

Water and fuel stations are a very welcome sight.

The crowds are all cheering and having a good time,

Giving the runners high fives all down the line.

When what to their wondering eyes should appear?

But the finish line with gleaming medals ever so near.

Endorphins are dancing all around in their head

It’s time for celebrations and then straight to bed.

May your running always be filled with joy and delight,

Happy running to all and to all a good night!
