Gazelles Shine; Cousins win at OKC MarathonApr 30, 2006
Sara Pizzochero wins marathon, Peter Rauch places third, and Gilbert and his cousin Bernard Manirakiza cross the finish line together in the half at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. Several other Gazelles made the trip and finished well. Aside from the great performances by Gilbert, Bernard, Sara, and Peter, several Gazelles placed 1st in their division: Kenny Hill, Popcorn Leonard, and Art Lopez. Leslie Barclay, Shane McFarland, Chris Kilburn, and David Clements also turned in top 10 age-group runs. Congrats to Chad Bagwell who completed his first half-marathon, Connie Farris for doing her second, and Susan Thompson for her gazillionth! Full results here. |

Looking like they were just out on a training run, and finishing with identical times of 1:11:19, the cousins maintained an effortless 5:27/mile pace in winning the half-marathon. Smiling, laughing, and generally having a great time, the pair seemed to really enjoy this race.
