Oklahoma City to Launch Gilbert's National Book Tour

Apr 2, 2006

What better place for Gilbert to launch his National Book Tour with the book, This Voice in My Heart? With the inspiring and moving Oklahoma City National Memorial as the backdrop, Harper Collins has agreed that no other venue in the nation is more appropriate.

Some eleven short years ago, a bomb went off in Oklahoma City, and 168 lives were lost and thousands were changed forever. The world watched in horror. And the world saw the response, what we call the Oklahoma Standard. Gilbert and the families here have a special bond - they have seen the worst the world has to offer, and responded by becoming inspiring beacons of hope. They exemplify a simple fact of life that good always overcomes evil.

Our mission here at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is to honor their memories, celebrate life, reach for the future and unite the world in hope. What better place for Gilbert to launch his National Book Tour with the book, This Voice in My Heart? With the inspiring and moving Oklahoma City National Memorial as the backdrop, Harper Collins has agreed that no other venue in the nation is more appropriate. We agree.

So, we are extending a special invitation for you all to come to Oklahoma City and be part of a historic event. Many of you have already registered - some of you will be back to defend titles, including Gilbert himself, back to defend the Men's Open Half Marathon title he won last year.

We have worked closely with Harper Collins and Fila to have Gilbert and the book ready for sale and autographing at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Health and Fitness Expo. Meet Bill Rodgers and Dick Beardsley while you are here - and enjoy the most moving Pasta Party in the entire running world.

The hosts of the event are the families affected by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building. And the site of the Pasta Party is the dramatic Oklahoma City National Memorial itself - overlooking the moving reflecting pond.

I know Gilbert would be so proud to be surrounded this weekend by you, his beloved Gazelles, those who sweat and toil and work with Gilbert to become healthy and run well. Please find a reason to run the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. And be with Gilbert as he launches a new chapter in his life's work.
