Q. Where is Gilbert's Gazelles moving?
A. Beginning June 7, 2014, Gilbert's Gazelles will be moving in with Jack & Adam's at their new location at 300 South Lamar (in between Schlotzsky's and PTerry's). Included in the 5,500 square feet of retail space will be a dedicated Gazelle training area that includes showers, restrooms, space for core classes and much more!
Q. Why are we moving?
A. A little over 12 months ago RunTex - the long-time home of the Gazelles - was closed. After two months on our own and 10 great months at Texas Running Company, this partnership with Jack & Adam's represents the best of both entities. Gilbert and Jack Murray (owner of Jack & Adam's) go back 15 years when they competed against each other in college. Since arriving in Austin each have been community focused in all their business endeavors whether it be running, cycling, swimming, or events.
Q. I thought Jack & Adam's was a bike shop?
A. Jack & Adam's plan for this move is to complete their business to be a one stop-shop for swimming, cycling AND running enthusiasts. The store will carry numerous brands of running shoes including Mizuno, Asics, Brooks amongst others.
Q. Will Gazelles meet at Jack & Adam's for classes?
A. Yes, beginning with our move in June, all classes - running, core, and yoga - will meet at 300 S. Lamar Blvd. Parking is available in the garage, alongside the street, and elsewhere in the area. Currently the store is working on special offers for those who ride their bikes to workouts.
Q. How do Gilbert and Jack Murray know each other?
A. During college, Gilbert attended Abilene Christian University and Jack attended Texas A&M Kingsville. The two competed against each other including one of Gilbert's most memorable races where he says they had to run through knee deep water due to flooding from a rain storm. In high school, Jack was the 1994 Texas State Champion in the 1600 meters. Both finding their way to Austin post-college, the two kept in touch and maintained a friendship through their involvement with the fitness community.
Q. Is this the permanent home for Gazelles?
A. Gilbert is excited for this new partnership and have no plans of looking elsewhere.
Q. What prompted the change from the current location?
A. The move and partnership made complete sense for all parties. Gilbert's Gazelles is forever grateful to Texas Running Company for taking us in, and prior to them extremely appreciative of all that Paul Carrozza and RunTex provided.
